Chesapeake IHOP destroyed in overnight fire

The fire broke out at the Taylor Road location, not far from Chesapeake Square Mall in Western Branch.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- Nearly three dozen firefighters were called out to an IHOP restaurant that became engulfed in flames overnight in Chesapeake.

Crews were called out to the IHOP on Taylor Road shortly after 2:30 a.m. The Chesapeake Fire Department said firefighters arrived to find flames shooting up from the roof on arrival. The fire quickly spread throughout the business and forced firefighters to stay outside while battling the blaze.

Approximately 35 firefighters responded to fight back the fire, which was brought under control by 4:14 a.m. As of 6 a.m., units were still on scene working to put the fire completely out.

No injuries are reported. The fire did not spread to any other neighboring businesses, but the IHOP is a total loss.
