City of Portsmouth needs the public's help to decrease poverty

The City of Portsmouth wants the public's help to decrease poverty in the city. A public forum will be held on June 21.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- Portsmouth wants the public's help deciding how to end poverty in the city.

The City of Portsmouth's Department of Planning has scheduled a public forum Thursday, June 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. to have an open discussion about poverty in Portsmouth. the city hired a consultant, Thomas P Miller, and Associates to conduct the study. The event will be held at 1701 High Street.

In addition to the public forum, there will be interviews with individual stakeholders to understand their views on the causes and conditions of poverty that are specific to the city of Portsmouth. These meetings will also seek to bring information forward about gaps in services Portsmouth provides to its citizens.
