VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Friends and family are asking for help in finding a Virginia Beach woman who has not been seen since Tuesday morning. Martin's college roommate and best friend Miriam Loya said she recently moved back to Virginia Beach after graduating from Longwood University in Farmville.
"I gave her a call later on Monday evening as I was on my way to our old apartment to pack up our stuff. I didn’t hear back from her and then the following morning I heard from her father that she was missing," said Loya.
Virginia Beach Police say 22-year-old Denise Martin has been missing since about 7 a.m. She was last seen at a home in the 2600 block of Dunlace Way in the Red Mill section of the city. Loya has been coordinating social media posts and a search party for Martin.
"I've been staying with them since I've gotten to Virginia Beach. At first, it was nothing but disbelief and now its just I have a mission and its to bring Denise home," said Loya.
She said Martin's cell phone, car keys, and wallet with her ID and debit cards were all left at her home. Police received a missing person report and are investigating. Loya said it is too early to determine if foul play is involved but nothing in the home seemed unusual.
"She always had someone talking to her. Whether it was me or her boyfriend, her father, her younger brother. Someone was in contact with her most of the time. For her to go missing like this is very strange," said Loya.
