New Virginia Beach mayor, council member to take oath of office

Mayor-elect Bobby Dyer will serve until December 2020, which is the remainder of former Mayor Will Sessoms' term.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) — Two new city leaders will be sworn-in in Virginia Beach.

Mayor-elect Bobby Dyer will take the oath of office during a special session of city council on Tuesday afternoon. He'll serve until December 2020, which is the remainder of former Mayor Will Sessoms' term.

Sessoms resigned in April.

Before winning the special election to replace Sessoms, Dyer had served as a Virginia Beach councilman since 2004

Council member-elect Sabrina Wooten will also take the oath of office during that meeting. She will take over Dyer's current Centerville Council seat.
