NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) — Newport News, York County, and Isle of Wight are just three school divisions that made the decision to operate their schools on a two-hour delay Monday, December 10 following the winter storm.

Newport News Public Schools said schools and offices would operate on a two-hour delay Monday after the winter storm caused power outages in several neighborhoods. Morning PEEP classes were canceled, but afternoon PEEP classes will be held on time. Ten, eleven, and twelve-month employees were told to report two hours late. Conditions will be monitored and any changes will be announced by 7 a.m. Monday.

All schools and offices in the York County School Division closed Monday. Originally, the division announced it would operate on a two-hour delay because of weather conditions in parts of the county. Essential personnel were told to report as directed by their supervisor.

Because of the dangerous road conditions in Isle of Wight County, Isle of Wight County Schools and offices operated on a two-hour delay Monday. Parents and employees were asked to keep an eye on the division's website and social media accounts for further updates.

Other schools operating on delays or closed due to the storm included:

  • Bertie County Schools: Two-hour delay
  • Dare County Schools: Three-hour delay
  • Franklin City Public Schools: Closed
  • Gloucester County Public Schools: Closed
  • Hertford County Public Schools: Closed
  • Middlesex County Public Schools: Two-hour delay
  • New Kent County: Closed
  • Southampton County Schools: Closed
  • Surry County Public Schools: Closed
