Parents on high alert after man shows up at school bus stop twice

Parents say a man tried to lure children to his car in Gloucester. They are now standing watch to catch the individual if he comes back.

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. — Parents in one Gloucester County neighborhood are on high alert after they said a man tried to lure children to his car. Parents said the man has shown up to the school bus stop on Spring Branch Drive more than once.

One parent first reported seeing the man almost three weeks ago.

Tina Ambrose spoke with that mother, who said the man told her daughter to “come here” while she was waiting for the bus. That's when the child ran back inside and told her mom.

“I would have done whatever I could if he would have tried to grab that girl,” Ambrose said. “I was out here this morning waiting to see if he would come back.”

Ambrose said that same man came back last Friday.

“I saw him coming and I told my son get out the car because I'm going to go get him,” Ambrose said.

Ambrose said she chased the man in her car, and even tried to block him from leaving the area. She said she and other parents are in constant contact with sheriff's deputies.

“You have to protect your kids,” Ambrose said.

The sheriff's office already dedicated patrols in the morning to that area after the first report. Parents like Ambrose said they won't stop until deputies catch this person.

“He won't do it here. I will be on him like there's no tomorrow,” Ambrose said.

GSCO said they received the first report Feb. 1 of an unknown subject stopped in a light-colored, unknown make/model vehicle.

The unknown vehicle is described as a silver or grey sedan, and the only distinguishing features were a headlight out (unknown side) and tinted windows. There is no physical description of the driver of the vehicle because it was early in the morning and still dark.

GCSO is actively investigating this incident to identify the vehicle and driver to determine their reason for being in that area, as well as their intent.
