Shaun Brown's attorney files motion for new trial

Shaun Brown, former 2018 independent candidate and 2016 Democratic Nominee for the Second Congressional District of Virginia, filed a motion for a new trial in her fraud case.

HAMPTON, Va. — After being found guilty of fraud in October 2018, Shaun Brown and her attorney filed a motion for a new trial.

The former 2018 independent candidate and 2016 Democratic Nominee for the Second Congressional District of Virginia asked the court for a new trial in defense of her Sixth Amendment right to an impartial jury.

"The constitution guarantees me a right to a fair trial and an impartial jury. The requirement of an impartial jury is secured not only by the Sixth Amendment, but the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendement and the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment," said Brown.

On October 4, 2018, during the trial, the court ordered that people who lived in the Second Congressional District could not serve on the jury.

It was discovered that three members of the jury in United States of America vs. Shaun Brown, the summer feeding program case, lived in Williamsburg, part of the Second Congressional District.
