VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia Beach Police Department is investigating after a crash involving a police vehicle led them to close a section of Shore Drive on Monday night.
Police had been on the scene of an accident in the 5000 block of Shore Drive around 9:17 p.m. One westbound lane was blocked during the crash investigation.
At that time, police said a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling in the one open lane when the driver drifted, hitting an occupied police vehicle.
The driver, 23-year-old Eric P. Miller, was charged with failure to maintain lane, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, DUI and refusal to give a sample of breath or blood.
The officer involved in the crash was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
All lanes of Shore Drive have since reopened.
