The Virginia Zoo begins fundraiser for train repairs, maintenance

The train track is in need of significant repairs and maintenance, so the Zoo is trying to raise $150,000 by October 31.

NORFOLK, Va. — The Virginia Zoo started a fundraiser to raise $150,000 for the ZooTrain.

The train track is in need of significant repair and maintenance, and the Zoo is trying to raise the money by October 31.

Just as is the case with commercial rail lines, the Zoo Train rail bed is regularly maintained and is now due for trackbed maintenance.

There are some perks to donation too, like contributions $25 or more receive a commemorative keychain. For $125, guests can mark a milestone with an engraved brick at the Beazley Station.

Guests can also purchase a train seat in their name for just $250.

Even just catching a ride on the train at the Zoo will help the fund because all ticket sales support the Full Steam Ahead campaign through October 2019.

To help the campaign, Norfolk Southern Foundation (NSF) has issued a matching grant to the Virginia Zoo to raise $40,000 to support maintenance and upgrades to the much-beloved Zoo Train, to which they will match with an additional $40,000.
