Man dies following crash on Tidewater Drive in Norfolk

Officers said four people were injured in the crash. One of them sustained life-threatening injuries and later died. Investigators said speed was a factor.

NORFOLK, Va. — A man died after a two-vehicle crash in the 6500 block of Tidewater Drive hurt four people and shut down parts of that road and Norview Avenue Thursday evening.

Officials said the first calls about the accident came in around 6:50 p.m.

A tweet from the department said one of the drivers sustained severe injuries and had to be taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after the crash.

On Friday, police said he died. They identified him as 42-year-old Zachary Miles.

The other driver as well as two more people were also hurt, but their injuries were minor.

Investigators say Miles was driving south on Tidewater Drive when he lost control of his car. He crossed over traffic lanes and crashed into an SUV.

Investigators believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
