Suffolk Fire & Rescue respond to house fire on Lewis Ave.

Nobody was hurt in the fire. It was declared under control by the Fire & Rescue department.

House fire in 200 block of Lewis Ave, Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. — Wednesday, Suffolk Fire & Rescue worked to put out a house fire near County Street in Suffolk.

A tweet from the department said the fire was in the 200 block of Lewis Ave.

Emergency officials were first contacted at 10:35 a.m. and arrived on the scene five minutes later. 

When the first unit arrived, they found heavy smoke and the occupant who had safely evacuated prior to the firefighters arrival. 

The City of Suffolk said the fire was under control by 10:53 a.m. but the hole sustained extensive fire damage. 

One adult has been displaced and is receiving assisted by the American Red Cross.  

The Fire Marshal's Office is now investigating what started the fire.
