Paws for Charity: We raised almost $30k in donations to help abused, neglected animals in Hampton Roads

13News Now and Espirit Decor Home Furnishings raised over $29,000 for Hope for Life Rescue, a Virginia Beach nonprofit that transforms the lives of dogs and cats.

NORFOLK, Va. — Wednesday is "Paws for Charity" Day, 13News Now's annual donation drive to help dogs and cats in tough situations across Hampton Roads.

More than 22,000 of Virginia’s dogs and cats were euthanized in 2023, according to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. But a nonprofit in Virginia Beach is working to combat that statistic.

We are partnering with Espirit Decor Home Furnishings to raise $25,000 by the end of Wednesday, March 20 for Hope for Life Rescue, which has rescued thousands of animals in and around our region.

The no-kill shelter specifically rescues abandoned, abused and neglected animals, many times coming from high-kill facilities. No matter the cost for care and medical treatments, the staff nurse these cats and dogs back to health, and then they work to find them new forever homes. If they can't, they keep them at the shelter forever.

Hope for Life has been able to maintain a 98% save rate for the animals they take in. And the shelter is cage-free, which means animals have spaces to roam free within the facility.

As of Wednesday night, we've raised $29,488 toward our Paws for Charity goal — a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our goal!

You can also donate by visiting the shelter during operating hours.

And, there are other ways to help Hope for Life, too: you can volunteer at the shelter, foster animals or host a puppy sleepover, help transport animals, or you can buy items off their Chewy wish list.
