Local barbecue joint to open new location in Suffolk

This will be the restaurant's third location, with smoke shacks already in Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

SUFFOLK, Va. — A Hampton Roads barbecue joint is expanding, with plans to open a new location in Suffolk this coming fall.

Redwood Smoke Shack announced in an Instagram post on Friday that it would bring its mouthwatering Texas-inspired barbecue to 3881 Bridge Road — formerly home to longtime Bennett's Creek Farm Market.

"Our build out will be starting very soon + we can not wait to take you all along for the ride + all the exciting things coming !!" according to the business' Instagram post. "Thank you to all of our new and OG customers for all of the support. You have made this all possible .. + stay tuned for all of the updates !!"

The Suffolk location will be the restaurant's third location in 5 years — with smokehouses already established in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Plus, the owners said this will be the largest location so far, calling it "bigger & better."

"We will now have more space, more food and more growth providing Suffolk with the best BBQ near you !!" an Instagram post reads.

From brisket to pulled pork and spare ribs, the smokehouse serves up seasoned cuts of meat slowly cooked over the indirect heat of real wood fire barbecue pits.

Owner and pitmaster Bob Roberts previously told 13News Now that everything is smoked and created in-house, allowing them to perfect the process.

"It's a craft," Roberts said in June. "It's artwork to me. It's our passion."

This announcement comes more than a year after Bennett's Creek Farm Market announced it was closing, with the then-general manager saying the property owners had "put it up for sale."
