Fire at Franklin peanut butter facility

A fire was reported at a Franklin peanut butter facility Saturday.

FRANKLIN, Va. — Around 12pm  Saturday Franklin Fire and Rescue received a call regarding a fire alarm at a commercial peanut butter facility at 3216 General Thomas Highway.

The fire was determined to have started in the roaster of the peanut butter facility, which was shut down as employees were evacuated. The fire was not immediately extinguished as the building remained extremely smoky even after the roaster was shut down. Twelve outside fire departments were called to help extinguish the fire and prevent its spread.

Damages are still being assessed by plant personnel.

No injuries have been reported at this time and the scene is now safe.
