York-Poquoson deputy shot teen who flashed gun, officials say

Medics took the teen to the hospital to be treated. According to Sheriff Ron Montgomery, the teen was in surgery Sunday night.

YORK COUNTY, Va. — A deputy shot a teen who flashed a gun in the Yorktown area Sunday night, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said.

According to a social media post from the sheriff officials, the shooting happened in the 400 block of Arcadia Loop at 6:11 p.m. Deputies responded after a report of an armed person who was brandishing a firearm.

Medics took the teen, a boy, to a hospital to treat injuries sustained from the shooting. 13News Now spoke to Sheriff Ron Montgomery at the scene, who said the juvenile was in surgery Sunday night. 

Officials didn't share the exact age of the boy, but a spokesperson confirmed he was a teenager.

The sheriff's office is holding a press conference at 2 p.m. Monday to share the latest on the shooting investigation.
