Norfolk teen shot in North Carolina, police say

Elizabeth City police say officers responded to the River's Landing Apartments Monday night for a report of a person being shot while riding in a vehicle.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — A 17-year-old was shot in Elizabeth City Monday night, police say.

Elizabeth City police say officers responded to the River's Landing Apartments on Weeksville Road near Elizabeth City State University around 10:15 p.m. for a report of a person being shot while riding in a vehicle.

When officers got to the scene, they were told that the victim, a passenger in the car, was taken to Albemarle Sentara Medical Center. The driver while attempting to evade gunfire struck three unoccupied vehicles in the apartment's parking lot.

Police investigation revealed the victim was a 17-year-old boy from Norfolk.

He was released from the hospital after being treated for a non-life-threatening injury. There were no other injuries reported.
