HAMPTON, Va. — National Youth Violence Prevention Week is just around the corner, bringing with it the goal of making schools and communities safer through education, awareness and celebration.

Founded in 2001, this effort aims to create togetherness, deter gun violence and show the positive role young people play in building a strong and safe community.

Hopeful Hampton is an initiative through the city to provide youth and young adults with opportunities and resources. Events will be held throughout the week of April 21-26 to educate, remember victims, encourage discussion, and offer recreation to unify the community and create a more hopeful future.

The week begins with The Reunion of Hope, an afternoon of faith, family and purpose. That event will be held at Gosnold's Hope Park on Sunday, April 21 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Then on Monday, April 22, Hope, Hampton, Football will take over Gosnold’s Hope Park. The community football competition will take place from 5 to 8:30 p.m. complete with meaningful connections with mentors and seeing the talent of local athletes.
