HAMPTON, Va. — A woman died after she was hit by a car in Hampton early Thursday morning, police said.
The crash happened in the 2400 block of West Mercury Boulevard, near the intersection with Aberdeen Road.
The Hampton Police Division said officers responded shortly before 1 a.m. after a report of a pedestrian crash.
Investigators think that Vanessa Lane, 51, was trying to cross the westbound lanes when she was hit by a passing vehicle. The area does not have a designated crosswalk.
The driver stayed at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with police as the investigation continues.
