2 dead following overnight shooting in Portsmouth

Police responded to a call reporting suspicious activity in the area of Lancer Drive near Airline Boulevard.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Two men were found dead in Portsmouth overnight, following a report of suspicious activity, the Portsmouth Police Department said Saturday.

Police were called to the 600 block of Lancer Drive near Airline Boulevard just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

At the scene, officers found two men with gunshot wounds, who died from their injuries at the scene. The men were later identified as 31-year-old Eric Pernell Jones Jr. and 32-year-old Russell Branden Barnes.

After interviewing witnesses, detectives apprehended Jamal Parham. Parham has been charged with several crimes including two 2nd-degree murder charges, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and two counts of shooting, cutting, and stabbing with the intention to maim or kill.
