Hampton parts ways with head football coach Robert Prunty

Robert Prunty went 26-29 since taking over the head coaching position at Hampton in 2018.

HAMPTON, Va. — On Tuesday morning Hampton University Director of Athletics Anthony D. Henderson Sr. announced that head football coach Robert Prunty is no longer with the program. 

Prunty went 26-29 since taking over the head coaching position at Hampton in 2018 and was the program's fourth head coach in 11 years. He made stops at East Carolina, Cincinnati, and Texas Tech before his first head coaching gig at Hampton. 

The Pirates finished the 2023 season 5-6 closing the season with blow out losses to William & Mary and Elon. 

The school announced that running backs and special teams coach Trent Boykin, a veteran of 28 years of collegiate coaching experience including 10 years on the FBS level at Akron, Boston College, and Ball State, will serve as interim head coach for the 2024 season.
