Portsmouth Police holds R.E.S.E.T Walk after 10-year-old-boy killed by stray bullet

10-year-old Keontre Thornhill died after a fight between teenage girls ended in gunfire.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Portsmouth Police Department held a R.E.S.E.T Walk in Cradock on Tuesday four days after a stray bullet hit a 10-year-old boy.

The walk started at 6 p.m. at the corner of Bainbridge Avenue and Farragut Street.

Officers, city council members, and members of the community went door-to-door along Farragut Street talking to residents about what happened.

Officials said 10-year-old Keontre Thornhill died after a fight between teenage girls ended in gunfire. Thornhill was an innocent bystander.

"My baby had nothing to do with it. My baby wasn't a troublemaker. He wasn't outside. Nothing! He's not into this street life. He shouldn't have been tooken away from me," Thornhill's mother said.

Police have arrested Shawnday Ross and charged her with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. They're still looking for Cleon Banks, who is considered armed and dangerous.

The police chief is calling an innocent bystander who was inside his home when the shooting happened.

Police Chief Stephen Jenkins told 13News Now he's outraged by the tragedy.

Both he and the boy's mother say they plan to seek justice for Thornhill.
