Chesapeake gas station shooting leaves Hampton man dead, police say

The shooting happened Sunday evening. The victim was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries. A suspect has been arrested and charged.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A man has died after a shooting in Chesapeake, police say. 

Chesapeake Police Department responded to a call reporting a man shot in the 5100 block of W Military Highway just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Police officials say the shooting happened at a gas station.

Officers found one man, 36-year-old Jonte Wilson of Hampton, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Wilson was transported to the hospital where he later died.

According to police, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived. 

Police updated on Tuesday that 36-year-old Dondre Thorne has been arrested in connection to the incident. Thorne is charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony felony among other charges.
