Submission + - Tech jobs grow despite layoffs, hiring freezes and Elon Musk (techtarget.com)
dcblogs writes: Tech firms added more than 15,000 jobs last month, despite continuing reports of hiring freezes and layoffs. While some big employers such Stripe, Microsoft, Google and Meta among others are slashing staff, many other firms are hiring. The layoffs by larger firms are improving the hiring prospects for mid-sized and smaller firms that compete with the tech giants, Victor Janulaitis, CEO at Janco Associates Inc., a labor market research firm. Elon Musk is adding to the available tech job pool by laying about half of Twitter's staff. CompTIA said that tech job postings increased in October to 317,000, an uptick of more than 10,000 from September. The types of tech jobs likely to remain in high demand include those requiring skills related to business process automation, 5G, IoT, cloud, edge computing, applied AI and cybersecurity, said David Foote, co-founder and chief analyst at labor market research firm Foote Partners LLC. He said that need for technology expertise is due to its widening importance in every aspect of a business.
